What a Week at Antella Travel Recruitment HQ!

Last week was one of those whirlwind moments that remind me just how vibrant and rewarding the travel and tourism industry can be. The energy at Antella HQ was off the charts and for good reason!

A New Chapter with AWTE

The week kicked off with a personal milestone I’m super excited to share: I was nominated and appointed to join the Board of Directors at the Association of Women Travel Executives (AWTE) for 2025. It’s an honour to be part of an organisation that champions women’s voices and professional development in travel, tourism, and hospitality. When I look at the board I’ll be joining with powerhouse women like Michelle Laverick (Chair), Debbie O’Neill (Vice Chair and Development Director), Kelly Davies (Secretary), Jane Pinfold and Yvonne Kinder (Events Directors), and so many more – I feel both inspired and grateful.

Here’s the full line-up of the AWTE Board of Directors for 2025:

  • Michelle Laverick – Chair (second term)
  • Debbie O’Neill – Vice Chair and Development Director
  • Kelly Davies – Secretary
  • Jane Pinfold – Events Director
  • Yvonne Kinder – Events Director
  • Helen Tustin – Finance Director
  • Joanna Reeve – Partnerships Director
  • Linzi Barber – Social Media Director
  • Ella Dunham (F Inst TT) – Comms Director
  • Sophie Morgan – PR Director
  • Hannah Louise Marshall – Marketing Director
  • Elena Ktori – Membership Director
  • Tolene van der Merwe – Membership Director
  • Barbro McAusland – Benevolent Director

My role as Membership Director, alongside Tolene van der Merwe, means I’ll be helping to grow and nurture this incredible community. AWTE isn’t just for women, it’s open to anyone in travel who supports the advancement of women’s careers. If you’re passionate about this industry, there’s a place for you here.

Why AWTE Matters

For those unfamiliar, AWTE is a member organisation dedicated to networking, learning, and supporting the careers of everyone in travel, tourism, and hospitality. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, in a corporate role, or just starting out, AWTE offers a space to develop, connect, and be inspired. I’ve seen first-hand how vital this support network can be, especially for those balancing work with caregiving or other life commitments – something close to my heart.

Our next online event is “Managing Stress” with the brilliant Debbie O’Neill on 30th April. There’s so much more coming for 2025, so if you’re not already following AWTE on LinkedIn, now’s the time. And if you’re thinking about joining as a member, I promise you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

Celebrating Industry Excellence

Midweek brought another highlight: Tony and I were invited to the launch party for Evan Evans’ new 2025/2026 brochure at the Moco Museum. Evan Evans is a name synonymous with quality – over 16,000 five-star reviews in 2024 and voted Sightseeing Operator of the Year by UKinbound. Their tours are legendary, from classic London days out to themed Harry Potter and ABBA luxury coach experiences. It’s always a pleasure to celebrate the innovation and dedication that keeps our industry moving forward.

Flexibility, Family, and the Future

Reflecting on the week, I’m reminded how important it is for our industry to embrace flexibility. My own journey from Holiday Rep in Cyprus to running a recruitment business and now joining the AWTE board wouldn’t have been possible without supportive, flexible employers. As a mum and carer for my parents, I know the difference trust and understanding can make. I’m passionate about ensuring talented people aren’t lost to our industry because of rigid work models. When we support each other, we all thrive.

Looking Ahead

With Easter on the horizon, I hope everyone in our network finds time for a well-deserved break. Take a breath, recharge, and know that you’re part of a community that values your journey – wherever it may lead.

Here’s to new opportunities, inspiring partnerships, and the unstoppable spirit of travel. From all of us at Antella Travel Recruitment, wishing you a restful and joyful Easter.
